Published Work
Chicago Tribune and Chicago media
I covered theater, nonprofits, pets, and other lifestyle content at RedEye; reported for the Tribune Sunday Life + Style section; reviewed theater for Time Out Chicago, and contributed to other local publications. My work has also appeared on WGN, WTTW, Curbed Chicago, Pioneer Press, Chicagoist, Design Bureau, and Modern Weddings.
Washingtonian
During my years as a contributor to Washingtonian magazine, Washington, D.C.'s award-winning city magazine, I reviewed theater, wrote the monthly "Our Pets" column, and wrote department stories and features — including "I Was George Washington," a first-person account of my try-out to be a professional baseball mascot. The piece was named among the best local journalism of the year in 2010 by the D.C. Society of Professional Journalists.
Preservation and national media
As an editor at Preservation magazine, I traveled to rural Kansas for a feature on a furniture designer who was reviving his hometown, wrote about a beauty queen on a mission to save historic buildings, and interviewed figures including Gloria Estefan, Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner, and Hugh Hefner. My work has also been published in other national outlets including USA Today, Mental Floss, Pop Sugar, Hello Giggles, Culturess, The Week, Runner's World, and The Architect's Newspaper.
